DAIRYMEN PREPARED TO LOAD BUTTER.

COOROY. November 2.

A meeting of dairymen was held here yesterday to discuss the situation in regard to the shipment of butter, Mr. Crouch presiding. Various proposals were put forward, and a motion to the effect that preparations should be made to organise a supply of labour in conjunction with other centres to help to load the butter in case of necessity was carried, but it was also decided to exhaust all other avenues of settlement of the present position before taking this action. In the meantime a number of dairymen are prepared to render services if they should be required.

This article was repeated in papers all over the State with each paper striving to provide a different header for the same article.

Waterside Troubles, Blocked by Wharfies, Loading Butter Shipments Dairymen Organising Labour, Farmers Willing to Load Butter, Butter Export the Waterside Trouble and Dairymen's Direct Action were some of the titles used.

The Memorial Hall

MEMORIAL HALL, COOROY.

To the Editor, 'Chronicle', Nambour.

Sir, — An idea appears prevalent in the Cooroy District, which at the present time is being thoroughly canvassed for funds to erect a Memorial Hall in the township of Cooroy, that this building is to be utilised by, & for the benefit of Returned Soldiers only. The Cooroy Sub-Branch of the Returned Soldiers earnestly wish to repudiate this idea.

Their proposal is to erect a Hall as a Memorial to their fallen comrades, as a meeting place for the Returned Soldiers and for the use of all sporting bodies and the public generally. The Hall is a permanent institution and will serve the coming generation equally well as the present one. Trusting you will grant us sufficient space in your paper and thus assist us to rectify the impression prevalent. Yours etc., V. DUNBAR,
Hon. Secretary Cooroy Branch
R.S.S.I.L.A.
Cooroy, November, 19, 1920.

1927 Souvenir booklet

Local history resources can be found in a multitude of locations. Here is a souvenir booklet published in 1927 with text about Cooroy by Alex Douglas. The booklet has been digitised by the State Library of Queensland and is available for viewing from that site and also on the Internet Archive. Links provided below. Of particular interest are the advertisement pages for the local businesses which mention many well known names.

Cooroy

Extract from page 9.

In the township itself every business, trade, and profession is well represented. Two commodious hotels provide ample accommodation for visitors. A first-class post office provides a continuous telephone service. A private hospital, well equipped, provides for the necessities of surgical and medical cases. Motorists have their needs attended to by proficient service stations and bowsers. In memory of fallen soldiers, a magnificent Memorial Hall has been erected by district residents, and a stone monument in the Memorial Park also testifies to the keen interest shown. Most of the Lodges and Associations find representation-a fine Masonic Temple is erected adjacent to the town. The C.W.A. is a very live organisation, which has rest rooms attached to the Memorial Hall. The literary needs are supplied by a well stocked library, and a printery, which produces a weekly newspaper and caters for all the printing needs of the district, is established. Amusement and entertainments are catered for by a weekly picture show, travelling theatrical and concert companies, as well as the local brass band and dramatic society. Churches are represented, the Church of England, Methodist, Presbyterian, and Roman Catholic, each sect having a substantial property. A Chamber of Commerce and several Farmers' Associations are active in protecting the welfare and advance of both town and district. The Education Department is represented by a first-class central school and six outlying schools. Climatic conditions are ideal, the average yearly rainfall being 60 inches. As a tourist resort Cooroy district presents unrivalled claims, though residents, up to the present time, make no particular effort to cater for tourist traffic. Radiating from the township some ten different roads penetrate in different directions to the boundaries of the district.
