Hallowe'en in times past


Newspaper reports provide glimpses into Hallowe'en events in the local area in years past.

Cooroy

1932
A Hallowe'en party was promoted by the members of the Cooroy Presbyterian Church Ladies' Guild in the Victory Hall on October 31, when the profits were in aid of the church's funds. Community singing was enjoyed to music by Mrs. H. I. H. Ross, Miss C. M. Toomey, L.T.CT.L., and Mr N, T. Ralph. Competitions were won by Miss M. M'cDonald and Mr, H, M'cPherson.

Tewantin

1936
TEWANTIN The Tewantin United Ladles' Guild held a Halloween gathering at which there was a mannequin parade, the prizes going to Miss M. Collins and Mr. R. Welldon.

Pomona

1939
HAGGIS PIPED. To aid the funds of the Pomona Presbyterian Church the Hallowe'en social was well attended. Mr. D. H. Uhlmann presided, and Mr. Roy Marsden was at the piano. Vocal solos were rendered by Mr. F. McNiven, a recitation by Miss Mona Green, and a tap dance by Master Volz. Mr. Alister Macdonald, according to time-honoured custom, piped the haggis around the room, and all desiring a taste of the brew, were accommodated.
